The epitome of a family run business, Brookfarm started after a family dream to move to the country and is now one of Australia's leading producers of premium quality macadamia products.

It all start's on the family farm with the winning range produced in Brookfarm's purpose-built Byron Bay bakehouse using the world's finest ingredients, including Macadamias from their own farm.

We caught up with the Brookfarm family to learn more.

Who are the team behind Brookfarm and what made you launch?

The Brook family - Pam, Martin, Eddie and Will are the family behind Brookfarm as well as a team of over 70 staff including production.

A family dream to move to the country and a passion for quality, healthy food sparked Pam and Martin Brook to transform a run down dairy in the Byron Bay hinterland into a working macadamia farm.

Brookfarm is now one of Australia’s leading producers of premium quality macadamia products and they continue to produce their award winning range in their purpose built Byron Bay bakehouse using the finest ingredients.

Being a sustainable company is of vital importance to Brookfarm and since they started Brookefarm they have regenerated rainforest; planting over 35000 new rainforest trees, employed natural farming practices in their macadamia plantation and created a haven for native wildlife. Their Byron Bay bakehouse also sports 288 solar panels and on a beautiful Byron Bay day – your muesli is being baked by the sun.

What does a day in the life of the Brookfarm team look like?

5am -Our QA team arrive at 5am to monitor production and usually our general manger Will as he’s also a bit of an early bird!

8.45am- COFFEE and muesli - this is very important!

9am- Throughout the course of the day we cover all areas including production and new product development meetings, marketing stand up to discuss projects and go to market campaigns.

1pm- Mail run for the online store, dispatch pick-up as well as stock transfers once the freshly baked product has been packaged.

We use a local transport company from Mullumbimby to transport our products all over Australia! We go local wherever possible.

5pm- Time to head off and enjoy the benefits of living here in the Northern Rivers!

What was involved in developing the Brookfarm range and are there plans for expansion in the future?

Pam still creates all the recipes in her family kitchen and in the early days the Brooks would create their mixes on the family farm and then use the ovens at the local bakery to toast their muesli. Martin would then load the muesli into the back of his car and sell to local shops & cafes!

Key elements to the product development is tastings, recipe developments and ingredients innovation

We have some very exciting releases this year so watch this space!

Based in Byron Bay, do you have any tips for those planning a trip?

There are wonderful hinterland drives out to the places like the Channon and Nimbin, fabulous restaurants like Harvest in Newrybar and Fins Plantation House at Cudgen.

Byron’s beaches the Pass and Wategos are the perfect place to hangout all day and watch the sun go down. The lighthouse walk is a wonderful activity too and the most easterly point of Australia!
