Meredith Dairy
There is something special about all our cheese makers; what strikes us about Sandy and Julie Cameron is that between them they have qualifications in animal husbandry, agricultural practices, environmental management (more of which later), cheese making, and philosophy, yes, philosophy.
The husband and wife team began turning their varied expertise to sheep and goats cheese making in the late 1980s when Sandy was able to start crossing East Friesland sheep with his parents wool-producing sheep, creating a superior flock of milking ewes based in Meredith, north west of Geelong.
The Camerons use milk that is less than one day old to make their wide range of dairy products including cheeses and yoghurts which have picked up awards up and down the country.
They pride themselves on their many environmental initiatives. These range from composting organic waste and using bio diesel, to creating wildlife corridors and planting 5,000 trees annually to offset their carbon footprint.
