These days we have become used to hearing farmers described as “passionate” and “hard working”; that they have a sense of the land “in their blood”; that they want to pass on what they do well “to the next generation”. The thing is, with David Byrne (and many of our producers) all of that is true.

David is the second generation to run Hillndale Orchards in Wandin, north of the Dandenongs, and we think his apples are some of the very best you’ll ever have. His varieties are invariable excellent but, David, always the perfectionist, noted that “as a farmer you are never satisfied; you always think there is something else you could do better”.
