Fennel Gratin

Say goodbye to your boring old side dish, say hello to this Fennel Gratin. With a mild aniseed flavour, Fennel is extremely versatile and sits perfectly alongside fish or chicken.

Ingredients

4 large fennel bulbs
1 pinch nutmeg ground
1 garlic clove, crushed
200ml double cream
50g parmesan

Method

  1. Heat oven to 180 degrees and put a pan of salted water on to boil.
  2. Trim the fennel tops, then cut into wedges.
  3. Boil for 5 – 6 minutes, then drain well.
  4. Arrange in an ovenproof dish, season and then sprinkle with nutmeg.
  5. Stir the garlic into the cream and pour over the fennel.
  6. Top with parmesan, then bake for 20 minutes, until golden.
  7. Enjoy!
